The IFHV's Maximilian Bertamini, together with Professor Thomas Feltes and Katrin List authored a contribution for the edited volume "Refugees and Migrants in Law and Policy: Challenges and Opportunities for Global Civic Education", just published by Springer.The chapter is entitled "Refugees and Social/Criminal Behaviour: More Refugees, More Offenders, More Crime? It addresses the development of crimes committed by and against refugees in light of the 2015/2016 mass migrations to Germany and deals with the paradox of citizens' personal impressions of sharp rises in crime, while in fact the crime rates for most offences are constantly declining.The IFHV's Professor Ulrike Krause authored a piece on the "Global Compact on Refugees", which was just published by the Flüchtlingsforschungs Blog of Netzwerk Flüchtlingsforschung. Today, the IFHV's Executive Director, Professor Pierre Thielbörger, spoke at the conference “The ‘Essence’ of Fundamental Rights in EU Law” in Leuven (Belgium). The Research Academy Ruhr is a newly institutionalised platform of the University Alliance Ruhr (Universitätsallianz Ruhr - UA Ruhr) to provide and develop perspectives and joint programmes for young researchers [link]. Ulrike Krause's gave a presentation on “Forced Migration, Conflict, Violence: Gender-sensitive reading of Developments in Sub-Sahara Africa” at the conference “Peace and Conflict Studies: Perspectives from the Global South”. Today, a special networking meeting was held at the IFHV between Institute and representatives of RUB's social science faculty and several civil protection organisations, such as the Bochum fire department, German Red Cross, German Live Saving Association, Maltese Order and Workers’ Samaritan Federation.The conference was co-hosted by KU Leuven, the London School of Economics and Political Science - LSE and the Hertie School of Governance.
