If I look at the properties dialog for the primary output, I can see under Key Output all the dependencies, but some of them are marked with an exclamation mark.

In the Dependencies property is listed "(None)." I've tried adding the assemblies to the project folder, but still get the above error when I try to build.

Hello, check; Net/microsoft.public.dotnet.framework.setup/2007-01/msg00004 was having this error all yesterday, including just before I shut everything down. So maybe the "fix" is simply to close Visual Studio and reload everything...

So there's really no reason not to install VS on the build machine. Hi @Neslihan The only thing I can think of is that the command line VS you are using isn't matching the GUI that you're successfully building from.

Then I ran a web search and found it was a known problem. You have to add this DWORD value to the registry: This dreadfully obscure change allows the devenv command to work correctly.

I'm quite angry about this as it took me over an hour to defeat the problem and document it.

Here’s an example: For reference, here’s how my source is structured: You can then publish the setup exe or msi if you need to.

You can run tests or scripts or anything else during the build (for ease I delete the unit test task in the above example). I wrote a post asked about this problem here [ microsoft.com/.../problems-building-setup-project-in-visual-studio-team-services ]. I followed the steps but I got an error during the compilation process.
